AAA Mid-Atlantic to sponsor the “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Dover on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009

DOVER, Del. – AAA Mid-Atlantic and Dover International Speedway are pleased to announce a new race name for the upcoming Sept. 27, 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event: the “AAA 400.”

The Wilmington, Del.-based organization provides automotive, travel, personal insurance and financial services, and has approximately four million AAA members in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

With this new agreement in place, AAA Mid-Atlantic solidifies its relationship with Dover International Speedway through 2015, and will serve as the title sponsor of September’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race for six years, beginning with the Sept. 27, 2009 event. In 2008, Dover officials announced AAA Mid-Atlantic as sponsor of the facility’s new focal point, the Monster Monument at Victory Plaza, presented by AAA. AAA is also the Official Auto Club and Home, Life, and Automobile Insurance of Dover International Speedway.

“Sponsorship of the Sprint Cup race is natural since AAA was involved in motorsports at its inception,” said Don Gagnon, President and Chief Executive Officer of AAA Mid-Atlantic. “Safety enhancements in the cars we drive today started on the racetrack and our motorsports sponsorships can help further advances in automotive design and safety.  Because most drivers love their cars and many are big motorsports fans this can be an excellent venue to deliver important safety messaging to the driving public.”

“AAA is a tremendous organization and all AAA Mid-Atlantic members live within driving distance of Dover International Speedway. Our relationship is a perfect fit,” said Denis McGlynn, president and CEO of Dover Motorsports, Inc. “AAA members are travelers, and this expanded relationship is great news for everyone involved—AAA, Dover International Speedway, and the millions of AAA members who will be able to take advantage of special member benefits offered as a result of the partnership.”

NASCAR returns to Dover International Speedway this September for three days of championship-fueled racing. The weekend is highlighted by the Sept. 27, 2009 “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event, which is race No. 2 in the 10-race “Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.” The Sept. 26, 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series race and the Sept. 25, 2009 “Sunoco 150” NASCAR Camping World Series race round out the weekend of action.
